Abstract
The process comprises diazotizing 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline with NaNO2/H2SO4 at 3-5?for 30 min, chlorination with CuCl/HCl to obtain 3,4,6-trichloronitrobenzene (I); adding 4- chlorophenylacetonitrile with (I) in THF in the presence of TEBA at 50?for 4 h to obtain 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(2,6-dichloro-4- nitrophenyl)acetonitrile (II); reducing with Fe/NH4Cl in toluene at reflux temp. for 6 h, cyclizing with cyclizing agent, hydrolyzing, and decarboxylating. The cyclizing agent is prepd. by the reaction of malonic acid with Et carbamate and acetic anhydride at 90-100?for 5 h.
